NINE MEN MORRIS POCKET GAME
I, and my helpers have been working our fingers to the bone to bring you something new, and we think these are fanastic! Hand made in Fred's shed using Fred's tools (and some of mine), these games have been made entirely from spare materials found at Fred's. The wood in fabulous Canadian Maple Wood which was used on the top spinners floor in a local cotton mill, the spinners apparently used to work in their bare feet so the floor had to be perfect!
The game is approx. 9" x 4" and we have machine routed then drilled the wood, sanded it entirely by hand and finally lightly varlished these T&G floorboards and turned them in to the ancient game of 'Nine Men Morris'! This game is the fore runner of naughts and crosses and dates back to the Egyptian times. The pieces used in the game are spare rivets found in Fred's shed and have been semi-cleaned to retain their character and so not to sanatize them too much, the heads of the rivets have been painted red and green (Fred's favourite colours).
Because they are hand made, no two are completely the same and we know that they will be collectors pieces in the future. As they are hand made, please don't expect them to look like they have come off the shelf, they are rustic and imperfect and that is their charm. This is the small version which I call the 'pocket size' - we also have a larger version listed here.
