As you probably know there is a statue of Fred in Bolton town centre, all around the statue were cobblestone sets, recently the Council decided to take up these cobblestones and replace them with concrete paving flags. Although they said they usually sell the cobblestones on, after a month of haranguing the council I finally convinced them that the rightful place for these cobblestones is Fred’s place, so I managed to "Aquire" ( in true Fred fashion ) the cobblestones and we are now using them to lay a path around Fred’s Garden at the Heritage Centre, please see the pictures showing the path being laid, and the duplicate and certificate of the first plaque to be sponsored by our patron Sir William McAlpine. Fred always wanted a cobblestone path around the garden but didn’t like the idea of having to pay for them hence our pride in having “acquired” them from the council.
Here is your chance to have your name immortalised In Fred’s Garden, by sponsoring a cobblestone you will be helping us in our mammoth task of refurbishing and preserving Fred’s legacy, you will have your name professionally engraved on a beautiful solid brass plaque on the workshop wall along the cobblestone path, ( or you can dedicate a plaque in memory of a loved one, as some have already done) what a fantastic present for a loved one, your plaque will remain here on view in Fred’s Garden for however long the Heritage centre exists, which could be 25, 50 or even 100 years, you will also receive a certificate of sponsorship and a picture of your engraved plaque, and a FREE ticket voucher so you can come and see your plaque, for a little extra donation you can have an exact duplicate of your engraved brass plaque on a mahogany plynth to display on your mantelpiece at home. The cost of sponsoring a cobblestone is £85 if it’s here for 30 years that works out at around £2 per year.
The duplicate is just £10 plus £4.99 p&p. (you can even spread the cost by paying £21 per month!).
As we've announced, we have secured planning permission for the new toilet block and seating area down at The Heritage Centre. The proceeds of the sponsor a cobble campaign will be going directly into the fund for this new toilet block and as a result we need a lot of people to sponsor a lot of cobbles in order to fund the project!
We also have the chimney to finish as well as planning to locate a new steam boiler in the coming months to allow us to get the engine running on steam which will be a truly historic event!
To order your unique cobblestone, please contact us on 07976 812 596 or send an email with your number and we’ll call you back. You can spread the cost over 4 payments and as always you can pay on credit or debit card over the phone, by cheque in the post or feel free to call in to The Heritage Centre.
Here is a picture of the first plaque to be sponsored, and we are proud to say it was sponsored by the patron of the heritage center trust Sir Wiiliam McAlpine, this is the plaque with certificate that goes to the sponsor and there will be another plaque that will be displayed on the wall of fred's workshop as you walk doen the cobbled path, you can see the path has been started now and will go right round the garden.
